As we grow older, it’s important for both men and women to take care of their health, whether that be by regularly visiting a GP or eating a balanced diet.
To help, the home doctor experts at House Call Doctor have put together their top five health tips for men.
- Prioritise sleep
Aim for around eight hours of sleep each night, and if necessary, catch up on a few hours on weekends. Sleep deprivation can have a major impact on many factors in your life including relationships and work, so it’s important to maintain a healthy sleep pattern.
- Exercise regularly
Scheduling time to exercise during a busy week can be difficult, but it also plays an important part in staying healthy.
If you’re struggling to find time before or after work, try going for a walk during your lunch break and schedule in walking meetings.
- Visit your doctor
Make sure you’re having regular check ups with your GP so you know of any upcoming tests you might need, such as a prostate cancer test.
Other health checks men are encouraged to have include skin checks, mental health and diabetes risk assessments.
- Break unhealthy habits
Whether it be binge drinking or smoking cigarettes, it’s time to try and break these unhealthy habits.
If you’re looking for further advice on how to kick a habit, visit your regular GP who can offer advice, or call a designated helpline.
- Eat a balanced diet
Make sure you’re eating a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, along with other foods including whole-grain products.
Also try to limit your intake of unhealthy fats, sugar, salt and artificial additives.
